A Kenosha Kitchen Opened Up for Two Retirees
A cramped, closed-off kitchen became an open entertaining space for a couple ready to host on their own terms.

Three Working Zones and a 22-Foot Beam
For decades this Kenosha kitchen was where the family gathered and the kids were raised. Now recently retired, the homeowners wanted it rebuilt around their own cooking and entertaining instead. U-shaped cabinetry and soffits had eaten the counter space, a pantry wall and dining room closet blocked every sightline, and the layout left the chef stuck behind a wall, so they came to us for a kitchen remodel that finally used the footprint the house already had.
We removed the hallway and absorbed an unused bedroom into the kitchen, then took down walls and soffits to open sightlines across the kitchen, dining and family rooms. A load-bearing wall came out in favor of a 22-foot structural beam. The new plan is organized into three working zones, a center island, a peninsula and a bar buffet, with plumbing and electrical reconfigured for the relocated appliances and new flooring, baseboards and doors throughout.
