Project Overview
One Closed Door. A Completely Different Bathroom.
This Minneapolis couple came to DreamMaker with a straightforward wish list – a better shower, more storage, improved lighting, and materials that looked interesting without requiring constant upkeep. What they got was all of that, plus a design solution they never would have thought of themselves.
By closing off a redundant door to the master closet, DreamMaker unlocked space for a large walk-in shower – and replaced the door with a translucent rain glass panel that floods the shower with natural light from the closet’s exterior window. One decision changed everything.

About The Neighborhood
Minneapolis homeowners bring high expectations to renovation projects – and for good reason. A master bath rebuilt with granite panels, solid surface materials, ergonomic design, and a natural light solution this creative fits the standard this city sets for what thoughtful remodeling should look and feel like.
The Challenge
What Wasn’t Working
Before the remodel, the space faced several challenges:
- A shower too small and insufficiently accessible for the homeowners' needs
- A tub that was never used consuming space and offering no practical value
- A make-up area that went unused - taking up vanity real estate without contributing storage
- A vanity at the wrong height for ergonomic daily use
- Poor natural light throughout the bathroom
- Finishes with no contrast or textural interest
- A wish list that needed to be met creatively within a defined budget
The bathroom was large enough to do something meaningful with. It just needed the right plan to unlock it.
“We appreciate our new master bath every single day. The increased functionality and improved aesthetics of the design exceeded our expectations, and the professionalism of the production team throughout installation made the entire experience a genuinely positive one from start to finish.”

Built Around How They Actually Live.
DreamMaker presented multiple options before settling on the plan that delivered the most – a creative layout solution that used the existing footprint more intelligently than the homeowners had imagined possible.
Key Improvements included:
- Redundant closet door closed off and replaced with a translucent rain glass panel - bringing natural light from the closet's exterior window directly into the new shower
- Large walk-in shower built in the space unlocked by the door removal
- New solid surface low-profile shower base with a combination of solid surface and granite wall panels - attractive and easy to maintain
- Fold-down seat, rain shower head, and handheld unit increasing comfort and accessibility
- Existing tub preserved for resale value with the tub deck resurfaced in matching granite
- Vanity redesigned and raised to an ergonomic height throughout
- Former unused make-up area enclosed with additional cabinetry - significantly increasing storage
- High-pressure laminate panel door cabinets and solid surface vanity tops with integral sinks throughout
- Finishes selected for contrast - dark granite panels against lightly textured vanity cabinets and light painted walls
