A Mount Pleasant Lake House Made Into a Forever Home
A cramped, dark summer lake house became a year-round forever home with the water finally in view.
Opening a Summer Retreat Up to the Lake
These Mount Pleasant homeowners were ready to stop visiting their lake house and start living in it. The kitchen was narrow with low ceilings, the cabinetry was dated and the workflow inefficient, the bar area went largely unused, and there was no sight line to the water from the kitchen at all. Underneath sat uneven flooring and a shallow crawl space. They came to us for a kitchen remodel that would turn a summer retreat into a year-round home.
A navy island with seating now anchors the room against crisp white cabinetry, with expanded counters and reconfigured appliances for an easier cooking flow. An old window was replaced and layered lighting added to brighten every corner. Barn doors save space while opening the kitchen to the lake, a new bar area gained a glass-front cabinet, bar sink and beverage fridge, and a professional gas range with a custom stainless hood became the focal point. Vinyl plank flooring now runs straight through the kitchen, family room and bedroom.
