4 Home Design Trends Driven By the Pandemic

Certain home trends have already started among those who want to ensure that they get through the pandemic without compromising their health and safety. As trusted home renovation contractors, we’re sharing some of the biggest design trends driven by the pandemic. Here’s what you need to know.

More Greenery

After being shut indoors for so long, a small garden or landscape additions appear to be a popular improvement among homeowners. All things related to gardening are starting to see a huge comeback, as well as new ways to incorporate greenery inside homes. Indoor gardening has become a great way to reduce stress and improve indoor air quality.

Healthier Spaces

The pandemic has heightened our sensitivity towards home hygiene and sanitization. This will no doubt bring about many new technologies that help preserve health and safety, such as more innovative air purifiers, indoor air quality monitoring, and updated air and water filtration systems. Ultraviolet lamps will likely be a technology seen more commonly at home; UV rays are especially useful in eliminating bacteria and viruses.

There’s also a rising trend in using germ-resistant materials for flooring and surfaces, as well as auto-cleaning technologies that can be integrated inside furniture, such as inside kitchen cabinets and certain types of closet design. Fabric choice will also change in favor of materials that can be easily cleaned.

Working From Home

While this trend already existed before the pandemic, it has increased significantly since. When you spend a lot of time working from home, it helps to have a space that enables you to separate yourself from the rest of the house. You can be more productive while still having clear separation between work and leisure. Dedicated home workspaces will become popular home remodeling projects, even after the pandemic has subsided.

New Uses for Existing Space

Online shopping has become more popular during the pandemic, which means more home delivery and a desire for a dedicated space for dropping packages near the entryway to the home. Bigger storage spaces, such as pantries, are also becoming a trend.
