A Primary Bathroom in Williamsburg Designed for Clean Lines and Dark Tones That Earn Their Place in Natural Light
How DreamMaker took clients with a clear modern vision to a trade partner showroom in Richmond to choose materials in person, then supplied samples to test in the bathroom's own natural light - giving them the confidence to select darker tones that complement the lighter ones beautifully.

About The Neighborhood
Williamsburg is one of Virginia’s most sought-after historic communities — a picturesque, family-friendly city with charming homes, tree-lined neighborhoods, and an easy pace that belies its proximity to the Hampton Roads’ booming economic corridor.
The Challenge
What Was Not Working
- An outdated primary bathroom in need of full modernisation
- A client vision for clean lines and modern finishes requiring thoughtful material selection
- The need to choose darker tones with confidence - which required testing them in the bathroom's own natural lighting conditions before committing
Like many homes in Cave Springs, the master bath retained its original footprint — creating real functional limitations for a busy household and making what should be a personal retreat feel like an afterthought.

To solve the bathroom’s layout and style challenges, DreamMaker redesigned the master bath with improved flow, custom storage, natural light, and a clean modern finish. Removing the unused Jacuzzi unlocked the footprint entirely, custom cabinetry made every inch purposeful, and thoughtful material choices brought the spa-like atmosphere the homeowners had always wanted.
Key Improvements included:
- Clients taken to a trade partner showroom in Richmond to view a wide array of material options in person
- All selections provided to the clients to take home and place in the bathroom's own lighting
- Large window with generous natural light used to assess and confirm darker tone selections
- Darker finishes confirmed as complementing the lighter tones beautifully in the space's actual conditions
- Full primary bathroom demolition and rebuild with new flooring, plumbing, electrical, lighting, and paint
- Frameless shower enclosure installed completing the clean modern look
