How We Help You Avoid Change Orders

Whether you’re working with a bathroom plan or looking at a kitchen quote from your contractor, it’s important to iron out the details before the actual work begins. Proper planning and coordination with your contractor matter not just because these are the best ways to get what you want out of your remodeling project, but also because you want to stay within your budget as much as possible. Change orders are sometimes unavoidable, but you should know that they are often the fastest way to blow your budget.

To minimize the need for change orders, DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen has devised a Safe Remodeling Process, which starts with our professional and ethical team members. Here’s how we typically go about the process:

1. A Dreammaker designer meets with you.

You can meet us at our design center or via webinar. We can discuss your goals for your remodeling project. Our designer will look at photos of your existing space and sketches or pictures of what you’d like to achieve. Then we’ll schedule a home survey and a design review meeting.

2. We visit your home for a survey.

A DreamMaker designer will visit your home. We always follow safety protocols when we do this. We’ll take some pictures and measurements. The more information we get from you, the more precise and detailed your initial kitchen estimate will be. We’ll schedule the next meeting after the survey.

3. We present a proposal.

Our team will thoroughly review the designs we’ve prepared and then present them to you. We can discuss several proposal options until you are sure about the design as well as the budget.

4. You sign the agreement.

We’ll present you the agreement, which includes exactly when we’ll begin the project and how many days it will take to complete. The drawings and other pertinent documents are included as well.

5. We hold a pre-start conference meeting.

We’ll arrange this meeting as a way for us to review the schedule and the entire process.

6. Communicate with your project manager.

For every project we tackle, the project manager is the dedicated point of contact. You can communicate with your project manager at any time during the project, about any concerns. This will help prevent change orders in the near future.

There are several reasons behind change orders in any remodeling project: from unforeseen circumstances to a simple change of heart on the part of the homeowner. Sometimes, change orders happen when a project fails to meet local building codes. However, DreamMaker came up with this process to reduce — if not eliminate — the chances of a change order. We know that the project is our job, but we never forget that it’s your home, so we always go the extra mile to ensure you’re getting the renovation you want.
