Project Overview
From Awkward Layout to Immersive Retreat
Does your bathroom feel smaller than it should, with an awkward layout and wasted space? Many homeowners imagine a larger, more luxurious sanctuary but worry that achieving it will require extending beyond their existing footprint. What if that extra space is already there, simply waiting to be unlocked with intelligent design?
By looking beyond existing wall boundaries, even a tight builder-grade bathroom can become an expansive, spa-like escape. For this upstairs Utah Valley bathroom, we reclaimed dead space, reconfigured the layout, and wrapped the surfaces in rich, tactile tilework to turn a cramped room into a truly relaxing retreat.

About The Neighborhood
Situated in a picturesque Utah Valley neighborhood along the Wasatch Front, this home offers close proximity to local schools, parks, and outdoor recreation. Homeowners in this growing area prioritize updating secondary and upstairs bathrooms into long-lasting, spa-inspired retreats that suit high-demand family routines.
The Challenge
Cramped Layout and Wasted Footprint
Before the remodel, the space faced several challenges:
- Unused, dead space hidden behind shower wall
- Awkward tub positioning limiting floor space
- Basic shower curtain setup with standard tile
- Builder-grade tub with plastic shower caddies
- Disconnected aesthetic lacking dimension and texture
The existing upstairs bathroom felt cramped and uninspired, constrained by a basic tub surround, temporary corner caddies, and an awkward layout that wasted valuable square footage.
BEFORE:
“From the moment we started working with DreamMaker, we knew we were in good hands. Our master bath had been on our list for years — we just never felt confident enough to pull the trigger with another contractor. DreamMaker changed that completely. They listened to exactly what we wanted, helped us make design decisions we never would have thought of on our own, and delivered a bathroom that honestly feels like something out of a magazine. Every morning I walk in and it still catches me off guard how beautiful it is. The process was smooth, the timeline was respected, and there were zero surprises on the bill. For a family as busy as ours, that peace of mind was everything. We tell everyone who asks — DreamMaker is the only call you need to make.”

Reclaimed Space and Layered Tilework
We completely rethought the floor plan by opening up unused space behind the original shower walls and repositioning the bathtub. This extra room allowed us to construct a custom built-in bench at the end of the tub and expand the overall feeling of the space. Layered tile details bring dynamic depth—from textured hexagon penny tile underfoot to handcrafted Zellige subway tile, large-format wall panels, and a sleek recessed niche.
Key Improvements included:
- Reclaimed hidden space behind shower to expand layout
- Built-in bench constructed at end of bathtub
- Dark hexagon penny floor tile for rich texture
- Large-format tile carried across shower walls and ceiling
- Handcrafted oat-toned Zellige upper wall tile
- Recessed accent niche with decorative tile trim
- Modern vanity with crisp white countertop and hardware
