Multi-Purpose Bath

This basement bathroom was designed to serve several purposes, to be easy to maintain, and to be aesthetically pleasing while projecting the personalities of our clients.

We started with an open unfinished space in the basement of our client's home, which had been used for storage for many years. They wanted to clean up the entire space, rearrange the laundry area, organize the storage and utility zones, open up a large warm and inviting play area for their grandchildren, and add a bathroom. We took down a central supporting post and installed a steel beam to create one large space, and then rearranged the laundry along one far wall and carved out a bathroom. We cleaned and painted out the ceilings, insulated and sheet-rocked and painted the walls, and installed insulated LVT over the concrete floors. The bathroom became the highlight of the project. The wife was a design aficionado who had collected many beautiful objects and enjoyed using them in unconventional and creative ways, and some found a home here. The bathroom gave the husband a requested masculine shower separate from the main level bathroom that was also easily accessible for guests in the adjacent family room and the outdoor patio and pool just outside the walk-out basement door. The room is made of durable and easily maintained materials so children can easily and safely use it. The husband is extremely pleased with how his new shower works for him, and the wife is very happy with how the vanity area was planned to work with her salvaged items.
