Your Simple & Quick Guide to Wall Paneling

Wood paneling has certainly come a long way. This versatile design element is now more beautiful than ever and can be used to create visual interest or to correct problems with certain parts of a room’s appearance. The best part is wood paneling can be surprisingly affordable. However, if you want to get the most out of this design feature, then you need to become familiar with the different types of wood paneling. DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of Schaumburg, an expert in house additions, explains more.

Shiplap

Shiplap boards are connected with an overlapping “rabbet” joint which creates a 90 degree-angled gap between the boards. This allows you to set the boards to a wider or lesser degree if you wish. Shiplap boards have strong lines which makes them a good choice for contemporary-style homes. They also look dynamic because their design draws your eyes around the room.

Beadboard

Beadboard paneling is a classic design that consists of individual narrow boards with a beveled edge on one side and a routered “bead” edge on the other. This creates a distinct decorative profile. Today’s beadboard panels appear identical to the classic design but they now come in easy-to-install sheets. Beadboard is perfect if you want to add a country feel to a room that makes it feel more welcoming.

V-Groove

V-groove planks appear wider than beadboard cladding. They have a chamfered edges that fit together through a tongue-and-groove joint. This results in a V-shape between the boards, hence the name. Like beadboard, today’s V-groove planks are available in sheets. V-groove planks add great character to a room. They are generally used to cover a larger area than beadboard cladding. Thanks to its wider planks, this wood paneling has a substantial feel.
