Tips to Keep Your Home Clean During a Remodeling Project

During a home remodeling project, you’ll see your home transform before your eyes. Of course, remodeling projects can also be messy. In today’s post, DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of Reno, the top choice for kitchen cabinet refacing and other home remodels, offers tips to help you protect your home.

Clean the Rooms Surrounding the Work Area

A good remodeling company will be willing to clean up debris from their work area every day. However, this isn’t always enough. Dust and debris have a tendency to move from one area to another, so it’s good to take time to clean and sweep the areas surrounding the remodeling space daily.

Vacuum Wooden Floors & Furniture

As one of the top interior remodeling contractors in our area, we strongly recommend running a vacuum over your hardwood floors and furniture before dusting them or wiping them. This will help prevent scratching.

Protect Your Countertops

Flat surfaces in a work area often become storage and staging areas for tools and supplies. If you’re not having your countertops replaced, protect them by covering them with cardboard. Tape the cardboard down to prevent it from shifting.

Isolate the Work Area

Make sure the work area is isolated from the rest of the house. Talk to your home renovation company about how they plan to keep dust and debris from spreading. Your remodeler might affix plastic sheeting over the doors or use heavier plastic tarps.

Remove Everything from the Room

Before the project begins, try to remove as much stuff as possible from the room that’s going to be renovated. Ideally, the room should be bare. This will prevent your furnishings from getting dusty or dirty and reduces the risk of accidental damage.

Ultimately, your home remodeling company is responsible for protecting your home and containing the dust and mess of the renovation work, but these tips can complement their efforts.
