A home remodeling project can be quite noisy and disruptive, but that shouldn’t get in the way of turning your house into your dream home. By practicing common courtesy, you can even keep your neighbors happy as you remodel. Here’s how.
- Inform them in advance. If you want to keep your neighbors happy, don’t spring the project on them out of nowhere. Instead, make it a point to inform them weeks in advance. That way, they can prepare themselves for the project and make any necessary adjustments.
- Stick to working hours. It’s highly recommended that you keep the racket down. One of the best ways you can do that is by sticking to working hours, meaning that you should limit work to 9-to-5 and nothing on the weekends.
- Put limits on the use of power tools. If your remodeling contractor needs to use power tools for the remodeling project, experts strongly recommend that you set a schedule for their use and stick with it. That way, your neighbors won’t be bothered too early or too late by the noise. If needed, ask your neighbors when is the best time to use power tools to lessen the disruption.
- Invite your neighbors in. Chances are they’ll want to see what’s going on. Let them see some of the progress so they can feel involved with your project even though it isn’t their home.
- Introduce them to your contractor. By doing so, they’ll know that you’re doing legitimate work on your home and feel more comfortable with having workers around.
- Keep your surroundings clean. Finally, keep your home as clean as possible when you’re getting it remodeled. That way, your neighbors won’t be annoyed by the clutter and debris that your project will be producing.
