It may surprise some homeowners to learn that some of the latest “new” design trends aren’t new at all. Rather, they’re old-school ones making a return. More specifically, trends from the 1970s and onward are steadily regaining popularity. A few retro trends making a comeback in 2020 include:
- Dining nooks. Open kitchens are still going strong and they are complemented by mini tables that can be tucked away in a corner. These are known as dining nooks, a retro trend that can also incorporate built-in benches to create a seating area, preventing clutter with bulky chairs.
- The conversation pit. The conversation pit is an interior remodeling trend that was popular in homes during the 1970s. As it’s a focal point, it creates a great atmosphere for entertaining guests, offering intimacy to make interactions more meaningful.
- Wallpaper designs. When it comes to giving your home a new lease on life, you can use geometric patterns, florals or metallics often found in 1970s wallpaper designs. This lets you take advantage of an aesthetic that makes even the simplest room look stunning.
- Retro appliances. The retro trend is also strong in appliances. This includes colorful ‘50s-era fridges and even replicas of antique wood-burning stoves. By adding these to your home, you can have an element that adds elegance and historic value to your home.
- ‘70s colors. Whites and neutral colors have dominated home design in past years but hues that were popular in the 1970s — such as avocado green, orange and tans — are steadily making a return to interior design. They add pops of color to the neutrals that homeowners have favored for so long.
