Undergoing a home remodeling project can be a challenge, especially if you have pets at home. However, there are a lot of ways you can care for your pets during the project. In this post, DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of Orland Park, a top interior remodeling company, shares some tips to keep your pets safe and comfortable.
Microchip Your Pet
Unfortunately, it’s common for pets to escape during a home renovation project due to the mess, noise and clutter that’s occurring during the project. Making sure each pet has a tracking microchip will make it easier for you to locate them if they escape your home. It’s also a great idea to take a photo of your pets so that it can be easier to make lost pet fliers and post online if they go missing. This also makes it easier for your local animal shelter to identify your pets and contact you.
Create a Safe Space
Your interior remodeling contractors will recommend that you have a safe space for your pets for the duration of the project. You don’t want them wandering around your house or the backyard while construction is ongoing. You can choose to put them in a room that’s not being renovated, and keep them well-stocked with water, food, bedding and some toys. It’s also a good idea to attach a note on the door to let others know that your pet is inside.
Ask Your Contractor About Chemicals & Noise
There are some home renovation projects that require the use of chemicals that emit hazardous fumes or leave behind toxic residue. It’s also a given that all projects create dust and noise. These particles can be harmful to your pets, especially to dogs, who have an acute sense of smell and hearing. It’s also worth noting that if the project requires asbestos removal, you’ll need to take your pets out of the area.
If your pets are bothered by noise, remember the safe space that we discussed previously and keep them there for the time being. As an alternative, you may want your pets to stay with a relative or neighbor or at a boarding kennel during this time.
