A Fresh Take on Traditional Style
This large traditional kitchen had plenty of space, but its dated finishes and inefficient features were ready for an update. Gold oak cabinets with decorative arches, fluorescent lighting, tile countertops, a bulky corner pantry, and a built-in desk that collected clutter left the space feeling firmly rooted in the 1990s.
The remodel in Layton preserved the kitchen’s original character while completely refreshing its functionality and style. By removing the awkward desk and corner pantry, the design created opportunities for smarter storage, additional workspace, and a more streamlined layout. Clean white cabinetry, warm maple accents, and sophisticated finishes brought the kitchen into the present while maintaining its cozy, classic feel.

About The Neighborhood
Located in Layton, Utah, this traditional home offers a welcoming setting near local amenities and outdoor recreation. The kitchen remodel brought modern functionality and refined style to a space designed for everyday living and gathering.
The Challenge
Outdated and Inefficient
- Gold oak cabinetry with dated decorative arches
- Harsh fluorescent lighting throughout the kitchen
- Hard-to-clean tile countertops
- Built-in desk collected everyday clutter
- Bulky corner pantry limited usable storage
- Island offered limited workable space
While the overall layout had potential, outdated finishes and inefficient features kept the kitchen from functioning as well as it could.
BEFORE:
“The mix of wood and white cabinets was exactly right – modern but warm and cosy. The kitchen finally feels like it belongs in this decade without losing the classic feel we love.”
