Key Elements of a “Cafécore” Kitchen

Cafés, from small local ones to name-brand chains, are designed to have a cozy look that encourages customers to stay. It only makes sense to try and recreate that “cafécore” look in your own kitchen. In today’s post, local kitchen remodeler DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of Ogden shares a quick guide to the key design elements of a cafécore kitchen.

Bar Counter

No café would be complete without a bar counter. It provides a nice spot for your espresso machine and other coffee-making equipment, and also serves as a service counter if you want to show off your barista skills to friends and family. But more than just a café element, a bar counter can also serve as your breakfast table, and appliances like a toaster and microwave wouldn’t be out of place in the same area.

Seating

In addition to bar seating, you’ll want at least one coffee table with comfortable seating. If you have a favorite cozy corner in a café, you already have an idea of the type of seating that you want. The idea is it should be a space where you can enjoy a cup of coffee while reading a book or working, alone or with friends. If you have a bay or bow window, they can serve as booth-style seating for a banquette. Your kitchen contractor can help you choose the right combination of seats, material and lighting to set the mood.

Cozy Colors

With the exception of cheerful, family-friendly places, cafés tend to favor color palettes that match dark aged wood paneling and warm focus lighting. They help create a “bubble” per table, which creates a feeling of coziness. Metallic accents and earth tones are often seen in combination with such colors. You are, of course, not limited to certain color palettes. With proper planning, even bright primary colors work well to create a cozy atmosphere, as typically seen in family-style diners.

Open Shelving

Round up the cafécore look with open shelving behind the bar. If you collect various coffee-making appliances, open shelves are a great way to display them, along with your coffee-making supplies and merchandise.
