Considerations When Adding a Washer & Dryer to Your Bathroom

Being able to do your laundry in the comfort of your own home is an important convenience, but not every home has a dedicated laundry room. Adding a washer and dryer in the bathroom can be the solution to this dilemma. But before making the big purchase, here are a few things to consider, according to trusted bathroom remodeler DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of Northwest DC.

Consider Your Existing Plumbing

Your washer will need to be near an existing source of water for obvious reasons. A drain also needs to be close by for wastewater. Ask any bathroom contractor and they will be quick to tell you that your existing plumbing will be a huge factor in determining whether it is practical for you to install these machines without having to drastically change the layout in your bathroom.

Consider Your Space

Front-loading units can be stacked on top of each other in a small bathroom or placed side by side if more space is available. You can place them under counters or create shelving on top for extra storage. One disadvantage, however, is the need for proper ventilation. Your contractor will have to install a vent from the machine to the exterior wall.

Should your bathroom space be very limited, a combination washer/dryer may be the solution for you. These machines will wash and then dry your clothes in a single load. While a load of laundry will generally take longer for a combo unit, they do have a smaller footprint and can easily be concealed inside a cabinet if you’re not a fan of exposed appliances.
