Tips for Planning an All-Season Outdoor Living Space

Outdoor living spaces are great for hanging out with family and friends. Besides being the perfect venue for gatherings, it’s also a wonderful spot to relax during your free time. However, people usually spend more time indoors as the temperature drops, leaving outdoor living spaces empty for the rest of the colder months.

Fortunately, there are several ways to create an outdoor living space that you can enjoy all year round. Use these tips from a trusted home renovator

Maximize Available Spaces

Do you already have a deck or porch? If so, you can turn it into an outdoor living space that you can use even when it’s cold. It’s an easy way to increase your home’s square footage and make your humble abode more enjoyable.

Roof or Shade Is Essential

A roof is an essential feature that all-season outdoor living spaces should have. You want an area you can still use even when it’s raining. Having at least one side of your outdoor living space that can be covered or closed in will ensure you stay dry and protected when the weather isn’t good. It will also give you a place to install heaters, meaning you can still enjoy the great outdoors even during winter.

Heating Is Key

When planning your project, discuss with your home remodeler how you will keep your outdoor living space warm during the colder seasons. There are different ways to give your outdoor area warmth. One of which is portable gas sources or propane radiant heat. A firepit, which you can light with gas or wood, will heat your space and allow you to roast marshmallows. You can make your outdoor living area more inviting and cozier with a fireplace.

Make It Cozy

You will be more encouraged to use an outdoor living space if it is as comfortable as your indoor rooms. Since it’s darker during the later parts of the year, make sure you have sufficient lighting. LED and solar lighting are great additions to your space. If privacy is an issue, consider installing curtains or shutters. Invest in furniture that can withstand harsh outdoor elements without compromising comfort. While wrought iron chairs are attractive, they are not as comfortable to sit in as cushioned sofas.
