There’s more to remodeling than getting a bathroom quote and choosing materials. You also need to determine why you are remodeling, set goals and hire a reliable contractor. When renovating your bathroom, you want to invest in features that contribute to its appeal, convenience and functionality.
Homeowners remodel their bathrooms for various reasons, but here are the most common things they want in an upgraded space.
A Space That Feels Like a Spa
Houzz conducted a survey involving 2,891 U.S. homeowners regarding their recent or planned bathroom renovations. Two in five respondents said that they wanted to turn their bathroom into a place for relaxation. The best way to achieve a relaxing atmosphere is when the space lacks clutter, has dimmable lights and greenery. Almost a third of the homeowners mentioned they wanted to add plants to their bathroom because they are attractive, calming and purify indoor air.
Premium Bathroom Features
In the same study, over three-quarters of respondents chose premium features for their showers and bathtubs. Some of the most common features homeowners included in their remodel were silent whirlpool baths, soaking tubs for two, rainfall showerheads, dual showers, body sprayers and thermostatic mixers. While these additions do increase project costs, they can significantly increase comfort and allow you to enjoy your space even more.
Increased Spend for Major Renovations
Another finding from the survey is that homeowners spent three times more on major renovations. Respondents who included a shower upgrade in their project spent triple on their renovation compared to homeowners doing a minor renovation. As compared to the previous year, the median spend for a major renovation for small and large bathrooms went up by 20% and 6%, respectively.
Working With Reliable Professionals
One way to ensure the success of your bathroom remodeling project is to work with experienced professionals. A reliable contractor will know what’s best for your home because they listen to your needs. Before hiring any company, make sure to do your research. Obtaining quotes will give you an idea of the bathroom cost and help you find the best contractor for your project.
The Houzz survey found that more homeowners relied on professionals for remodeling projects in 2021. From 82% in 2020, it increased to 84% in 2021. As a result, there is an increased demand for general contractors, bathroom remodelers, bathroom designers and interior designers.
