Before: The tub base made it challenging for the customer to enter and exit the shower and left little space for any needed assistance. Additionally, the absence of grab bars and space for seating within the shower posed safety problems. Limited space and the inability to enlarge the bathroom footprint were obstacles in maximizing accessibility. Additionally, the vanity location did not provide the needed access for a wheelchair and its design utilized valuable floor space despite providing storage. After: In this green and gold bathroom, a bright, barrier-free shower replaces the tub/shower combination enlarging the space and providing room for showering assistance. Adding a large niche in the shower provides storage away from the usable shower space and adding a bench creates seating for an easier showering experience. A seat-belt was added to the bench to create stability and safety for the user while a white fold-down barrier was added to prevent water run off from the bench into the rest of the bathroom. This device folds down so a wheelchair can roll over it and is functional yet does not impede with the overall aesthetic. Installing a hand-shower was instead of a standard shower head provides flexibility in showering and cleaning needs. Gold grab bars were added for safety and tie in with the matching gold and green accessories giving this room a fresh feel. The vanity area is now easily accessible too with the wall-mounted sink placed adjacent to the toilet and a matching gold cover for protection below the sink.
