Foodie’s Cottage

Project Name
Foodie's Cottage
Project Summary
An inviting layout perfect for entertaining and cooking with guests replaced a once closed off kitchen divided the dining and cooking space.
Project Story
This green kitchen blended with the craftsman architectural style of the home with its bead-board, hardware, and cabinetry style. However, this kitchen did not provide optimal storage and the pass through divided the flow between the kitchen and dining area. The client also had an aging parent living with them so the transition from the hardwood floors to the kitchen tile posed a tripping hazard. In addition, the space between the stairs and the end of the peninsula was a smaller walk space than the client desired. Inadequate lighting, dark countertops, backsplash, and cabinet hardware dimmed the room. Freshened up by the gray and blue shaker style cabinets, this kitchen was updated by while still blending with the craftsman aesthetic of the home. A statement hood and matching accent tile further enhance this look. White countertops and subway tile paired with brushed bronze hardware all lighten up the space against the darker cabinets. Tying new hardwood floor into the existing rid the kitchen of any tripping hazards and increasing the size of the walk-ways made this kitchen more accessible. Additionally, decreasing the size of the sliding glass door and making it a cased opening provided the wall space needed for cabinetry. Other important features that enhanced this kitchen design include a storage drawer underneath the stairs that was converted into a dog food and water station pull-out, a long island to accommodate seating for five, and a butler's pantry with additional storage and the client's desired coffee station.
