Ideas for Your Attic Remodeling Project

Are you looking for extra space in your home? Chances are, the attic is not your first choice. It’s either too hot or too cold, plus it has poor lighting. However, with the help of interior remodeling experts, you can turn your attic space into something functional and beautiful.

Whether you need a place to work or relax, the attic is very versatile. In today’s article, DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of Greenville, one of the area’s most trusted remodeling companies, shares a few ideas for your attic remodeling project.

Great Ways to Use an Attic

Home Office

If you’re working from home, you need a quiet room far from the living areas. You don’t want your family members to interrupt an important meeting. As such, converting your attic to a home office can be a smart idea. You can have enough space to put in a desk, shelving, office supplies and, of course, your computer equipment.

Guest Room

Turning your attic into a guest room is a great choice if you have friends or relatives visiting often. However, it’s important to note that this conversion is a bit more complicated. To ensure your attic will count as a bedroom, you need to comply with specific code guidelines. Be sure to check that your attic meets the following:

  • A minimum of 70 square feet of floor space
  • Two methods of egress (one should usually be a window)
  • The ceiling should be 7 feet high for at least half of the bedroom
  • At least 7 feet of width, regardless of the length

Gym

Building a gym is one of the most popular home renovation projects since most homeowners prefer working out in the comfort of their own homes. If you are thinking of converting your attic into a gym, you may be worried about the temperature, particularly during the summer season. For this reason, your contractor may recommend upgrading your HVAC system when remodeling your attic.

Library

If you like collecting books, you need to store them in a special place in your home. Keep in mind that storing your valuable books in a place where they don’t fit can damage them. Thus, you may want to turn your attic into a library. When building a library, all you need is a lot of space and lighting. Built-in shelving offers the right height for each set as well as extra rooms for new collections. If there is enough space, consider adding a comfortable chair and reading light.
