Kitchen Design Ideas for People Who Hate Cleaning

Few people enjoy cleaning a kitchen. But while there’s no avoiding kitchen cleanup, you can make it easier by taking advantage of easy-clean kitchen design ideas.

Pass on Mosaic

Backsplashes are pretty to look at, giving your kitchen a boost in the appearance department, but they also offer the added benefit of making areas behind cooktops and sinks easier to clean. Avoid mosaic designs though. Even when they are made with smooth tile, mosaic backsplashes have excessive grout lines which dirt and other kitchen gunk can get lodged in.

Keep It Tight

Your kitchen work triangle, that is. Arranging your cooktop, sink and refrigerator to be close to each other will minimize the distance you have to walk while carrying things, which is one of the top causes of spills. Adding an island during contemporary kitchen renovations is an easy way to bridge key points of the triangle.

Go Large

Large-format tiles are great as flooring because they minimize grout lines, limiting the need for cleaning. Opt for smooth, glazed tile and you can keep floor cleaning to a minimum as well. Just wipe up spills, do some damp mopping and you’re done. Other great easy-clean flooring options include laminates, sheet vinyl and linoleum.
