Modern Makeover

The Details:

• Our clients live in an older farmhouse that was built by her grandfather! They loved the history and memories of the home but wanted to bring it up-to-date.
• The footprint of this master bath is very small, so we had to get creative to make the space feel larger and meet the needs of the clients. We removed the space-wasting original blue bathtub and designed a barrier-free shower. A clear, fixed panel keeps the water in the shower without visually dividing the shower from the rest of the bathroom.
• We removed the blue ceramic tile and kept the original wood paneling as a nod to the past. Charcoal hexagon floor tile and white glossy wall tile give a modern feel to the space, while a furniture-style vanity and Carrara marble countertop maintain a traditional vibe. Radiant floor heating added a final touch of luxury.
• Our clients were extremely pleased to have a space that offers all the convenience of the present without forgetting the past.

Before:

• The corner tub took up most of the floor space in the bathroom.
• Dated blue tile made it impossible to improve the look of the space simply with decorative items and paint. The space needed an entire makeover!
• A second entry door made the bathroom a jack-and-jill, which was not desirable for a master suite.

New Design:

• The clear glass shower panel gives the bathroom a larger feel, while the charcoal hexagon floor tile reflects a modern style
• Maintaining the original wood paneling while adding a furniture-style vanity with a Carrara marble countertop gives a traditional vibe
• The dated blue tile was replaced with white glossy wall tile and modern shower fixtures
• The end result is a space that offers all of the modern conveniences without forgetting the past
