This is one of the easiest and most important home maintenance tasks you can do!<\/p>\n

\u00a0How to Test & Maintain<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Press the \u201cTest\u201d Button<\/strong> \u2013 You should hear a loud beep. If not? Time for fresh batteries.<\/li>\n
  2. Replace Batteries<\/strong> \u2013 Use high-quality AA or 9V batteries\u2014do this twice a year (set a reminder!).<\/li>\n
  3. Check Expiration Date<\/strong> \u2013 Most detectors last 7\u201310 years. If yours is older, replace it.<\/li>\n
  4. Dust the Vents<\/strong> \u2013 Use a soft brush or vacuum attachment to remove cobwebs and dust buildup.<\/li>\n
  5. Check Placement<\/strong> \u2013 Smoke detectors should be on every level of your home, and near bedrooms. CO detectors should be near sleeping areas and gas appliances.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
