Conserve Water at Home and Take the “I’m for Water” Pledge

WaterSense is a voluntary partnership program that’s sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency. Its goal is to educate consumers and to promote water efficiency. To do this, the program labels water-efficient products that meet EPA criteria with the WaterSense label. They also started the “I’m for Water” pledge to encourage homeowners to save water.

Why Water Efficiency Is Important

Water covers about 71 percent of our planet’s surface, but less than one percent of this water is actually available for our use. The vast majority is saltwater or in highly inaccessible regions. It’s important for us to conserve water because our population is constantly growing, but the water supply more or less stays the same. Conserving water and incorporating water-efficient products into a bathtub replacement or bathroom remodel can also save you money on your utility bills.

Ways to Save Water

If you want to save water, then we recommend using WaterSense-labeled products. These products meet strict criteria. They are certified to use at least 20% less water than similar products, which makes them water-efficient. You can also make small changes to your lifestyle that can have a big impact on water conservation. Consider taking showers instead of baths, fixing water leaks immediately and turning off the tap when brushing your teeth.

What Is the “I’m for Water Pledge” and Checklist?

WaterSense created the “I’m for Water Pledge” to help homeowners save money on their utility bills and to help them conserve water.
