Industrial Farmhouse
Project Name
Industrial Farmhouse
Project Summary
This Cinderella story started with a dark, cramped kitchen and an unused dining room. The space created via the remodel is a charming showpiece that incorporates industrial and modern farmhouse elements, clean lines, open gathering space, and enough personality to “wow” the clients’ children and guests. With all their design goals met and the challenges-turned-treasures of the construction process, the client could not be more pleased with the beauty and functionality of their dream kitchen!
Project Story
Industrial marries modern farmhouse in this design-build kitchen, commissioned by two homeowners who were dreaming of a kitchen that was worthy of their culinary creations. After sixteen years of living in the space, the clients’ wish list included an island with seating for four, better lighting, a beverage fridge, and a comfortable cooking space that the family could enjoy together.
Transforming the dark, cramped kitchen into a space worthy of both family meals and fine dining presented some construction and design challenges, one involving opening up the kitchen. While there was a window above the sink, the wall between the kitchen and dining room kept the boxed-in kitchen isolated from the rest of the home and lacking in natural light. Removing the wall allowed for more natural light to flow into the space, and sunny afternoon light now bounces off the walls and fills the spacious new kitchen!
The family also loves their new extended island because it encourages casual meals and interaction with those preparing the meal. All in all, this kitchen that was in need of space and light has now become the kitchen of their dreams!
