COVID-19 has forced nearly everyone to spend more time at home, and there’s no doubt the collective shelter-in-place experience will have a long-term impact on consumer psychology. Our home remodeling experts at DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of Aiken expect certain home features and design trends to increase in popularity as a direct result of the pandemic.

Hygiene-Focused Features

Even after the pandemic threat recedes, the focus on hygiene isn’t likely to fade away. That’s why we expect hygiene-focused features such as germ-resistant flooring, ultraviolet lamps and smart toilets to become more popular. Smart toilets haven’t gained much traction in the U.S. market in recent decades, but we have a strong feeling the pandemic’s going to change that.

Home Offices

COVID-19 has accelerated the work-from-home trend, with a large number of companies allowing their employees to work from the comfort of their homes. If this has become a permanent arrangement for you, you’ll want to work with a home renovation contractor to set aside a dedicated working space in your home to maintain productivity and preserve some aspects of your normal work routine.

Sanctuary-Like Spaces

According to polls released by the American Psychiatric Association in March, more than a third of Americans said the coronavirus has had a serious impact on their mental health. It can be hard to relax in cluttered spaces, so we expect that sanctuary-like spaces such as reading corners and green space will become more popular in the future.

A lot of people find cooking relaxing, but a standard kitchen might not meet an avid home cook’s needs. If you feel you need more space in your kitchen or it’s lacking essential features, there’s always the option of pursuing a kitchen remodeling project.
