Use Abandoned Phone Numbers to Boost Remodeling Business

Doug Dwyer, Contributing Editor

Professional Remodeler Magazine

The first thought most business owners have when they hear the term "acquisition" is money. They think it takes a large financial investment to get the job done. While this can be the case when purchasing a well-run, profitable business, some companies are not that viable.

There are many types of acquisition strategies, but here's one often ignored: acquiring abandoned phone numbers. Using the same phone number that an out-of-business contractor in your niche previously used can be a quick and easy way to get extra calls.

Wealth and Wisdom in Today's Economy

Doug Dwyer, Contributing Editor

Professional Remodeler Magazine

We have all met or heard of people with great financial wealth who are very unhappy. They are busy yet truly unfulfilled and are often lonely, with or without a family living at home with them.

Most of us are in need of financial stability, and many are desperate for it right now. This is an easily understandable need and desire. Yet, we could miss something even more important than this if we do not pause and take inventory of what else makes us happy.

What is that? It is gaining wisdom!

How Retirees Can Create a New 'Look' in Their Homes

As baby boomers begin to retire and stay in their current home – instead of purchasing a new one in a challenging economy – they will focus on home improvement options, says Doug Dwyer, president and CSO of DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen.

A recent article on MSN.com noted that sales are up at major home improvement chains and interior designers say many of their clients are interested in trying home improvement projects. Coincidentally, retirees will be spending their time analyzing what improvements are lurking under their roofs, Dwyer said.

Take A Break To Focus On What's Important

Doug Dwyer, Contributing Editor

Professional Remodeler Magazine

In preparing to write my column this month, I asked myself, what is the most important thing I could share? Then I realized that for most of us, the month of May signals that our children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces are about to be out of school for the summer.

That thought put things into a healthy perspective. As entrepreneurs, most of us have been very focused on making sure our businesses successfully weather the current economic storm. For some, the economy has only been a factor for six or seven months; for others it’s been 15 to 18 months; and for a few, it started as early as the middle of 2005, if you can imagine that.

Doug Dwyer, Contributing Editor

Professional Remodeler Magazine

In our current economic environment it is all too easy to get negative, be discouraged or, even worse, think foolishly about how to improve our business.

As the owner of a national franchise company, I have the unique opportunity to experience this firsthand. Over many years, I have learned some business owners are looking for a "magic pill" or a lifesaver idea that will fix everything.

Past Clients Can Become Marketing Allies

Doug Dwyer, Contributing Editor

Professional Remodeler Magazine

As I thought about what to write in this month's column, I began to think about the core of every business: the customer. Think about your past customers. How have they helped your business? Of course, they have contributed to your sales objectives, but I recommend you think of them as a customer for life, which can create a win-win relationship. If you do a quality remodel and give them a great customer experience, then they can become your biggest marketing ally.
